Respected as both an artist and architect in San Antonio, Michael Imbimbo was asked to develop a new addition to the Bartys Residence which would serve primarily as an art studio for Mrs. Kim Bartys, and also as a multi-function space accommodating additional living and dining area needs through simple rearrangement. To foster inspiration, we composed the feel of space, its natural surroundings, the play of light, and the sound of water into a loose, well-lit, cohesive design. Circulation is redirected through a strong sense of entry and permeable exterior walls, creating a usable kitchen pantry and concealing a large laundry room. We developed a flexible plan which provides the playful enthusiasm necessary to nurture artistic imagination.
