Scarred by a fire in the 1950s, this church since had undergone a series of repairs and renovations not in keeping with the main structure’s architectural character. The challenge was to reach beyond just-another-renovation and transform this facility’s scarred legacy into one which elevates its parish community and unifies its character through redesigning the existing nav and adding a new narthex, meeting hall, and adoration chapel. Renovations to the nave include modernizations for current Catholic practices, aesthetic and acoustic improvements, a new pipe organ, and a new HVAC system. The narthex addition features a new baptismal font, bridal suite, and sacristy on its entry level with meeting facilities below. The original sacristy and abandoned priest quarters offered an opportunity to house the tabernacle within a new adoration chapel and open previously-stark adjacent alley space into a lush and welcoming courtyard.
